Seidu Keita, of Mali (often written Seydou) is called "the father of African photography" Famous for his work in the '60s in Bamako, Mali. When I visited the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and saw how he posed his subjects with special care, and set the stage with props to make their portraits, just like the Hollywood stars from Black and White movies who were the inspiration for my collagraph series 30 years prior, It inspired my African Icon series. I pay homage to this artistic trailblazer. And now my work is in the same museum's gift shop.
